So (sew) busy I don't have much time to even write a blog post! I just wanted to let everyone know what s happening here in the studio.
First of all, I am in the thick of PROM and WEDDING seasons! I have altered quite a few prom dresses and am hitting the deadlines to make sure every beautiful young woman is ready for her magical, memorable, evening in the gown of her dreams. With most area proms in early May, I can see the end of prom season in sight, so hopefully my schedule will open up a bit after that!
Wedding season is also in full swing (with no end in sight!) This means that in addition to the original wedding dress I am making, and a few others I am altering, I am doing several bridesmaid gowns per week! My studio is a sea of colorful chiffon and satin! Formal gowns, like the ones worn at proms and weddings take a lot more time than day dresses (like one you might wear to work) because of the delicacy of the fabrics used. A lot of care is needed to take apart a seam and not cause a pull or tear. The tension on my sewing machine much also be adjusted for each new fabric.
Of course people still need basic alterations to their everyday clothes and everybody has been very understanding and supportive that those are taking a bit longer than usual due to the influx of formal things in my queue-- I really appreciate everyone's patience!
As far as April goes, I am completely booked! I have started to schedule into May, so if you are interested in an appointment for then, be sure to contact me soon, because believe it or not, May is starting to get full too! I already have an original bridesmaid dress slated, as well as more gowns for weddings and other big events (graduations, etc.)
I expect things to slow down a bit as summer really gets underway. That is the perfect time to bring me your coat, jacket or cold weather clothes, so I can repair them and get them back to you in plenty of time for the first State College snow fall of next autumn... with our luck that'll be Labor Day weekend.
