Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I drop by any time?
No. The hours at Restitch Studio are by appointment only. This allows enough time for each client to have a private fitting and the attention they deserve.
Do you do alterations too?
Original and restyled garments are my specialty and are what I love to do. I alter bridal and formals as well. Basic alterations (pants hemmed, straps shortened, etc.) are taken on as I have availability. I only work with apparel, not home interiors.
How do I make an appointment?
The appointment calendar says you have no available appointments for several weeks! Is this correct?
Yes. The appointment calendar shows my real-time availability. I understand if you need your garments back to you sooner than I can take them. Here is a list of other people who can help.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
The garment that needs to be altered, as well as anything that will change the fit of the garment when you typically wear it. So, the undergarments and shoes that you intend to wear with a dress, etc.
If I don't have the right undergarments and shoes yet, can I still be fit?
Not accurately. These things change the way we stand and how our bodies are supported. Please be sure to acquire proper shoes and undergarments before your fitting. If you don't have the exact shoes yet, bring ones of the same height.
How long does it take to make an original garment?
It depends on how elaborate the piece is and how many other garments I am currently making. Clients interested in original bridal and formal wear should contact me no less than six months before the event to allow time for designing, fabric sourcing, and several fittings. Sooner is even better!
How do you make an original dress?
I create a pattern based on your body measurements and the sketch. It is a labor intensive process that you can learn more about HERE.
Will you knock off a dress I like from another designer?
No. I'm happy to look at another designer's work and use elements from their design to create an original dress for you, which is even better!
Why do brides want original gowns?
I hear lots of reasons. Here are a few: "The gown of my dreams doesn't exist", "bridal shops overwhelm me", "I want to incorporate/wear an heirloom gown" "I want to support a local artist/business"
Can you teach me to sew?
No. You wouldn't want me to! I'm a terrible teacher. Here's a list of places that can teach you to sew beautifully! I encourage you to contact them and then show me what you made! The Makery, Stitch Your Art Out, Frye's Sweeper & Sewing Company
